The On-Board Charger (OBC) is used to charge the high-voltage battery from the AC grid when parking. The higher driving range of plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs) is achieved by improving battery capacity and the energy efficiency of electronic components. The power ranges from 3kW to 22kW, and the battery voltage is standardized, about 420V currently. In order to charge faster, there comes a trend to make the battery voltage up to 800V or higher. This affected the power range requirements of OBC topologies, and 11 kW or even up to 22 kW designs are preferred. At the same time, considering the needs of V2G and V2L, the bidirectional flow of power has gradually become mainstream. SiC Device is widely used in OBCs due to its extremely small switching losses and excellent high temperature characteristics to achieve high efficiency and high power density.
