As electric vehicle infrastructure, charging piles play an important role in the development of the new energy vehicle market. China has stated to accelerate the construction of charging and swapping infrastructure in New Energy Vehicle Industry Development Plan (2021-2035). DC charging piles are mainly divided into three categories: wall-mounted DC piles (DC Wallbox), DC fast charging, and DC supercharging. The power level of DC Wallbox is from 20kW to 25kW, DC fast charging pile is from 50kW to 150kW and DC supercharging pile is from 150 to 350kW. Currently, 650V Si MOSFET is generally used for DC charging pile modules. Meanwhile, the power of charging modules usually exceeds 6kW, which means three-phase input becomes necessary. The complicated three-level topology with complicated drivers is used due to the high bus voltage of 800V. The 1200V SiC MOSFETs allows a simple two-level topology become possible. It simplifies the circuit and drive, increase system efficiency and power density, and easy to realize bidirectional power operation.
